Rex Dale Floyd, age 65, of Upton, passed away, Saturday, January 31,2026, at his residence. Born on March 24, 1960, in White Mills, to the late Ona and Clyde Floyd. He spent his life rooted in the values of hard work, kindness, and genuine connection with others.
He was a skilled blacksmith, horse trainer, and truck driver; he had a natural talent for just about anything, those who knew him closest in the horse industry said he could beat out a pair of horse shoes unlike anyone else. Rex was most famously known for his lifelong devotion to the horse industry. Horses were not just his work; they were his passion. He had a natural way with them, marked by patience, understanding and respect that could not be taught. Rex also deeply loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Just as deeply as he loved horses, Rex loved people. He had a warm presence and a way of making others feel welcome and valued. Whether through a conversation, a laugh, or a helping hand, Rex left an impression of joy, kindness, and genuine love on everyone he encountered. His generosity of spirit and easygoing nature made him someone people gravitated toward and remembered fondly.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Ona and Clyde Floyd; Brothers, Mickey and Joey Skees and a sister, Bonnie Skees.
He is survived by his Wife, Lorrie Floyd; his children, Shelby (Holly) Floyd, Heather (Cliff) Blevins, Ashley (David) Walters, Jodi (John) Warner, Hope (Josh) Puckett, and Julie (Nate) Merrill; brothers, Gary (Turetta) Skees, Justin Skees, Johnny Wayne Skees, Jerry Skees, Jason (Melissa) Skees all of White Mills, and Donnie (Mary Ann) Skees of Sonora; Sisters, Diane Fields of Clarkson, Belinda (Ronnie) Knight of Elizabethtown, Pam Skees of Elizabethtown, Barbara (Jamie) Saddler of Big Clifty and Jamie Skees of White Mills; several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rex will be remembered for his loving and generous spirit, his deep love for horses and the outdoors, and the lasting joy and love he shared with all who had the privilege of knowing him
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 21, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville. with Bro. Doug Sanders officiating.
Memorial visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and continue after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
