Mary Peace Obituary

Mary Edith Davenport Peace, age 97, of Magnolia, passed from this earthly existence to her eternal Heavenly home on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Helmwood Healthcare in Elizabethtown.

She was born in Hodgenville on August 17, 1928, to the late Ivy Kirk and Maude Ellen Nunn Davenport.  She was a 1946 graduate of Hodgenville High School and attended Lindsey Wilson College.  She married Herbert E. Peace on October 31, 1947, and they lived in Magnolia, Lexington and Elizabethtown before returning to Magnolia in 1971.

A lifelong follower of Jesus Christ, she was a faithful member of Magnolia Baptist Church where she served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher, choir member, church treasurer and librarian.  She was an 18-year volunteer at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home “The Redcoats”.  She received emergency certification to teach in a one room schoolhouse in LaRue County after her first year of college, while she was primarily a full-time mother and homemaker, she also worked for J.W. Foley’s Tax Service in Hodgenville.  After Mr. Foley died, many of her customers insisted she continue as their tax preparer, which she did for several years from her home.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Allison Peace Pike; six brothers, James, Marshall, Carl, Leonard, Edward and Donald Davenport and two sisters, Edna Brown and Louise Herbert.

She is survived by three sons, Donald G. (Rosemary) Peace and Timothy H. (Belinda) Peace, all of Elizabethtown and John K, Peace of Magnolia; six grandchildren, Robert G. (Louise) Peace, John E. (Tonya) Peace, Dr. Daren L. (Mary Stuart) Peace, R. Brian (Katie D.) Peace, Dr. Ryan (Katie L.) Peace and Russell Pike; fourteen great-grandchildren, Kayla (Keifer) Dalton, Amber, Hank, Hunter (Rylee), Brady, Nash, Dylan, Walter, Connor, Raegan and Caleb Peace and Brooks, Jett and Sloane Pike; a great-great grandchild, Easton Peace; a sister, Virginia Benningfield; a brother, Roy (Bobbi) Davenport; three sisters-in-law, Georgia Peace, Wanda Peace and Faye Davenport and well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 7 at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Emory Riley officiating.  Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy are suggested to Magnolia Baptist Church, Hosparus Health, Magnolia Cemetery Fund or Helmwood Healthcare Employee Fund
